RECORD YOUR SCREEN IN CHROME WITHOUT AN EXTENSION
Record your screen in Google Chrome with no extension or install. Use the built-in browser capture API and download a WebM file in seconds.
WHY SKIP CHROME EXTENSIONS?
Chrome extensions for screen recording often need broad permissions, updates, and an account. A browser-native recorder uses the Screen Capture API that Chrome already ships — no store install, no extra toolbar icon, and nothing running in the background after you leave the page.
If you only need a quick clip for a bug report, a tutorial, or a meeting recap, an online recorder that stays on the page is usually enough.
STEPS TO RECORD IN CHROME
Open this site in desktop Chrome (or another Chromium browser). Click Start recording, then choose Entire screen, Window, or Chrome Tab in the system picker. Optionally share tab audio when you select a tab.
When you are done, stop the recording and download the WebM file. The clip is created locally in your browser — it is not uploaded to our servers.
TIPS FOR A CLEAN CAPTURE
Close unrelated windows before you share your full screen. Prefer sharing a single window or tab when you only need one app. Keep Chrome updated so getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder stay reliable.
WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and VLC. If a tool requires MP4, convert the file locally with a trusted converter after download.
